Title: User Experience and Human-Centered Design

How do we know if the technologies we design are useful and usable to the people who use them? In this practical talk, Emma Rose will provide an overview of the field of user experience (UX) and the principles of human centered design. The talk will provide opportunities to brainstorm your current design projects so bring your ideas!

Bio: Emma J. Rose is an Assistant Professor in Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at the University of Washington Tacoma. Her research is motivated by an interest in designing for digital inclusion, specifically in resource-constrained communities. She examines how people overcome challenges in daily life as an inspiration for design. Prior to coming to UWT, she spent a decade working in User Experience as a consultant. She has a PhD in Human Centered Design and Engineering and an MS in Technical Communication, both from the University of Washington Seattle, and a BA in Creative Writing from Duquesne University.
